Bucknell Men's Tennis Sweeps Bloomsburg 6-0 in Season Finale

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis put the finishing touches on a successful season, defeating Bloomsburg 6-0 at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. Evan Zimmer became the third player in program history to record 150 career victories as he, Josh Katten and Kelly Morque closed out their Bucknell careers. The Bison end the season with a 15-8 overall record.
With storms threatening the area, Bucknell and Bloomsburg (0-11) began the day with singles play. Zimmer got to his historic milestone with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brayden Shipmen at the No. 2 position. The Bison senior finishes his four years in the Orange & Blue with a career record of 150-79, which ranks third all-time behind Katten (155-96) and Ryan Sandburg (150-113).
Katten and Bybel both collected two wins. Bybel was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Mike DiSanto at No. 1 singles, and Katten defeated Kyle Christy 6-1, 6-0 at the third spot. The Bison duo then teamed up for an 8-0 victory at second doubles, taking down Christy and Devin Bolton.
Katten finishes his career as the all-time leader in combined victories at Bucknell. His singles record of 72-53 and doubles mark of 83-43 both rank second in program history. In his first year, Bybel amassed a singles record of 22-9. The freshman also finished doubles at 18-10.
Bucknell did not give up a game in the bottom half of the singles lineup. Kyle Rosen, Octavio Canibe and Jonathan DeFrancesch all defeated their Bloomsburg opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Also winning were Scott Bernstein and Chris Tortora at third doubles, 8-0 over Jeff Failey and Doug Sensi. Aidan Lynch and Zimmer were unable to finish their doubles match due to lightning in the area.
With a final 15-8 team record on the year, this year's Bison rank second in program history for single-season victories. They trail only the 1998 squad, which finished 19-2 overall.
