Bucknell Men's Tennis Knocks Villanova, 5-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis took the first four singles matches, securing a 5-2 victory over Villanova at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The win was the first for the Bison (9-5) over the Wildcats (5-7) since 2006. Octavio Canibe proved to be the difference maker with his straight-sets win at the No. 6 slot in the lineup.
After dropping the doubles point, Bucknell had some ground to cover in singles. It wasted little time as Kelly Morque, Kyle Rosen, Nick Bybel and Canibe claimed the first four matches and therefore the team victory. Bybel and Canibe had the closest decisions. Bybel was a 6-4, 7-6 winner over Thomas O'Brien at the top of the lineup. Canibe then went 7-5, 7-6 over Villanova's Kelly Donaldson at No. 6.
Joining Rosen, who defeated Michel Rosengren 6-3, 6-3, and Morque, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Chris Seitz, in the winner's circle was Evan Zimmer. The senior needed a super tie break, but came away with the decision over Ryan Peyton at third singles, 7-5, 3-6, (10-4).
Zimmer was also one half of the lone doubles win for the Bison. Teaming up with Aidan Lynch, the Bison defeated Matt Colonnese and Max Levine, 8-2, at the No. 2 slot.
The victory over Villanova is Bucknell's first in seven years when it defeated the Wildcats 5-2 in 2006. The Bison extended their lead in the all-time series to 10-6.
Bucknell's next time out on the court will be on April 2 at Saint Joseph's. The match in Philadelphia is set for 3 p.m.
