Bucknell Track & Field Voted Second in Patriot League Preseason Polls

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's and women's track and field were both voted second in the Patriot League outdoor preseason poll on Monday. The Bison men, which totaled 90 points in the vote, have won each of the last three conference titles. The women were championship in three of the last four meets and claimed 89 points in the latest poll.
The top spot in both preseason polls were held by Navy, but the Midshipmen's lead over the Bison is slim. On the men's side, Navy had 92 points and nine first-place votes, just ahead of Bucknell's 90 points and seven first-place votes. In the women's poll, the Mids had 95 points and 11 first-place votes, while the Bison added five first-place votes to their 89 points.
Bucknell and Navy distanced themselves from the rest of the pack. Lehigh was third (72 points) in the women's poll, followed by Army (63), Lafayette (47), Holy Cross (41), Colgate (27) and American (14). Army took the third-place position in the men's poll with 76 points, followed by Lehigh (62), Lafayette (50), American (31), Colgate (29) and Holy Cross (18).
The Bucknell men won their third consecutive Patriot League title a year ago, earning a 14-point win over second-place Navy. The women dropped to second last spring with Navy taking home the championship trophy. Just 23 points separated the Mids and the Bison in 2012.
The Patriot League Preseason Poll is determined by head coaches and sports information directors who cannot vote for their own teams.
Bucknell's 2013 campaign will get in full swing this weekend. The Bison will split squads between the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pa., and the UMBC Big Dawg Invitational in Baltimore, Md., on Saturday. The Patriot League Championships are set for May 3-4 in Bethlehem, Pa.
