LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell women's lacrosse team visits Lehigh Saturday afternoon in a battle between teams looking for their first Patriot League win of the season. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Bucknell comes in at 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League, while Lehigh is 2-6, 0-2. Both teams have fallen to co-leaders Navy and Colgate in league play.
The Bison last played on Saturday at home against No. 15/20 Navy. With heavy snow falling throughout, it was a 3-3 game after 21 minutes, but the Mids ended the first half with six straight goals to go ahead 9-3. That's how the game ended, as neither team attempted a shot in the second half before the game was called with 11:16 remaining due to the snow-covered field.
Katelyn Miller continues to lead the team with 14 goals. She had a career-high six of those in the team's win over Presbyterian on March 12. Ryan Wenk (9-4-13) and Madison Hurwitz (5-7-12) are also double-digit scorers.
Miller leads the squad in caused turnovers (11) and ground balls. Adrienne Wendling (23) and Sophie Kleinert (18) pace the squad in draw controls, which has been an area of strength for the Bison this season.
The Mountain Hawks are looking to shake a five-game losing streak. They opened the season 2-1 after one-goal wins over Villanova and Binghamton. But since then they have fallen to Delaware, Navy, No. 2 Florida, Colgate and Fairfield. The Colgate game was close, with the Raiders prevailing 10-9 in overtime in Bethlehem.
Carli Sikonik (14-2-16) and Julie McBrien (15-0-15) lead the team in scoring, while McBrien also tops the squad in ground balls (12) and draw controls (17). Kelly Scott has a team-high 10 caused turnovers.
Lehigh owns a 25-12 lead in the all-time series. Last season at Graham Field, the Mountain Hawks scored 10 of the game's final 13 goals en route to a 17-9 victory. Miller led the Bison with three goals, while Ryan Wenk and Emily Kookogey scored twice apiece. Leigh Ann Tocivia paced Lehigh with four goals and three assists.
Next up for the Bison is a home date with Duquesne on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
