Bison Men's Tennis Takes 5-1 Loss to Florida A&M in Spring Break Finale

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – Bucknell men's tennis saw its Spring Break winning streak come to a halt with a 5-1 loss to Florida A&M in Humacao, Puerto Rico, on Thursday afternoon. Ryan Marcil collected the lone win for the Bison (6-4), as he was victorious in his third consecutive match. Bucknell also took five of eight matches off Colgate in a scrimmage.
The junior Marcil, who had not played a match for the Bison since his freshman season, won this third straight match with a super tie break decision against Florida A&M. Marcil won the opening set 6-4, but the Rattlers' Temuera Asafu-Adjaye evened the match with a score of 6-3 in the second set. Marcil pulled out the ultimate win at 10-5 in the tie break.
Marcil's win was the only one in a contested match for Bucknell against Florida A&M. Evan Zimmer came the closest to getting his team another point, but the senior fell in a super tie break. Zack Everden won the third singles bout for the Rattlers, 3-6, 6-3, (10-6).
Bucknell had a bit more luck against Patriot League foe Colgate in last-minute exhibition round. Jonathan DeFrancesch and Chris Tortora won their doubles match 8-3 over Bobby Berkowitz and Alan Pleat. Both Bison also won in singles, DeFrancesch taking an 8-5 decision over John Beam and Tortora winning 8-5 over Nick Laub.
Scott Bernstein and Roy Skinner were also winners against Colgate.
Bucknell won its first two matches over Spring Break, defeating Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 6-1 and Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras 7-0 earlier this week. The Bison will now return home for their next match. Bucknell will host Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m. on March 19 at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
