LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore Bryson Hough (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) was named the Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday following his six-hit shutout of North Dakota State on Sunday. The right-handed Hough became the first Bison to throw a nine-inning shutout since Mathew Wilson in the 2008 NCAA Tournament against Florida State.
Hough, who earned his first win of the year and his first career PL Pitcher of the Week honor, struck out a season high-tying three batters as he posted his second career complete game and Bucknell's first shutout since last April vs. St. Bonaventure. Hough's ERA dropped from 4.02 entering the game to 2.55 as he allowed just one baserunner to reach third base. Only once were there two baserunners in an inning.
Hough leads the team with 24.2 innings pitched and four starts this season. He has allowed just 20 hits and has yielded just one run over his last two outings (16.0 IP).
The only rookie to earn a spot in the Bucknell rotation a year ago, Hough was fourth on the team with a 3.63 ERA, including 3.31 vs. Patriot League opponents, in 2012.
Hough's pitching propelled Bucknell (2-9) to a 3-0 victory over North Dakota State. Travis Clark had his third career four-hit game and scored two runs, while Carter Bumgardner added three hits.
Bucknell, which played North Dakota State in Lakeland, Fla., will continue its seven-game Spring Break trip Monday evening against Fairfield. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. The Stags bring a 3-5 record into the contest.
