LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell junior defenseman Jackson Place (Wayne, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and freshman midfielder Thomas Flibotte (Cohasset, Mass./Deerfield Academy) were honored by the Patriot League on Monday after playing prominent roles in a 10-8 victory over defending Northeast Conference champion Bryant on Saturday in the team's home opener. Place was selected as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while Flibotte earned his second Rookie of the Week award in the first three weeks of the season.
Place set a new career high with six caused turnovers in the victory over Bryant. Three of those came in a dominant fourth quarter as the Bison protected a narrow lead. Place ranked 22nd nationally with 26 caused turnovers last season, and he is off to a strong start in 2013.
Flibotte scored two of Bucknell's five second-quarter goals against Bryant. Both of his goals came on hard outside shots, and both of them broke ties. His second tally snapped a 4-all deadlock and gave the Bison the lead for good. Flibotte now has five goals in three games to start his career.
The Bison are now 2-1 after Saturday's victory, which was the first of four straight home games for the Bison. Next up is the Patriot League opener this Saturday against Navy at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
