Bucknell Men's Tennis Cruises Past Hofstra, 6-1

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - Bucknell men's tennis extended its winning streak to three matches as it cruised past Hofstra 6-1 in Quaktertown, Pa., on Saturday afternoon. The Bison (4-2) swept doubles and Josh Katten won the fourth singles match to secure the team victory. Bucknell will take on Princeton tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Princeton, N.J., in its final match of the month.
Bucknell got off to a hot start by winning all three doubles matches. Kelly Morque and Evan Zimmer allowed just one game to Ari Richman and Johan Vila in their 8-1 decision at second doubles. Nick Bybel and Katten had similar success, winning 8-2 at the No. 1 position over Adrien Bailly and Matthew Gemmell.
Only Octavio Canibe and Aidan Lynch sweated it out for a bit, but the duo improved to 3-0 in duals by pulling out the 8-6 win over Ryhann Gill and Joseph Erichsen, putting the Pride (1-2) in an early hole.
Bucknell kept things rolling in singles as it won the first five singles matches. Morque allowed just two games to Gemmell at second singles, winning 6-1, 6-1, and Bybel pulled off a nearly identical score with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top of the lineup over Richman.
Zimmer made the team score 3-1 with his 6-4, 6-4 win over Bailly, setting the stage for Katten's clinching victory. The senior took down Vila by a score of 6-4, 6-1 to keep the streak alive.
Collecting the final point for Bucknell was Canibe. After a tough 7-5 battle with Gill in the first set, the Bison sophomore wrapped things up easily, winning 6-1.
With the win, Bucknell improves its all-time series record against Hofstra to 10-2.
