The Bison had five different goal-scorers in Saturday's game against Stony Brook. Sophomore Cori Thielemann and freshmen Sam Rickels and Emily Becker all tallied their first collegiate goals, while Emily Kookogey and Katelyn Miller also scored. Ryan Wenk and Madison Hurwitz handed out assists. Arriana Sajjad led all players with five draw controls.
Wednesday's game will mark Penn State's season opener. The Nittany Lions went 12-7 and earned an NCAA Tournament bid a year ago. They return eight starters this season, including Maggie McCormick, who led the team in scoring with 59 points on 29 goals and 30 assists as a freshman in 2012.
Penn State has won all 16 meetings in a series that dates back to 1978.
Bucknell and Johns Hopkins meet for the first time Saturday at 4 p.m. at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays opened the campaign with a 20-10 win over Old Dominion at home on Saturday, and they also host Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday before the Bison come to Baltimore.
Taylor D'Amore piled up three goals, five assists and eight draw controls in the win over ODU, and she earned American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts.
For the Bison, this week's games marks the start of a six-game road stretch that will take them all the way into the middle of March. The next home contest will be March 16 against defending Patriot League champion Navy.
