Bucknell Women's Tennis Falls to Niagara, 4-3

OLEAN, N.Y. – Bucknell women's tennis won the doubles point but could not hold on through singles action, falling to Niagara at Olean, N.Y., on Saturday evening. The Bison, which are now 1-3 on the year, will be back in action at 3 p.m. tomorrow against St. Bonaventure.
Bucknell began its day with wins at first and third doubles. Maria Cioffi and Elena Vidrascu improved to 12-3 on the year when playing together by winning 8-5 over Hilary Hansen and Sarah Hellstern at the top of the lineup. Jen Bush and Christie Schneider then gave the Bison an early lead in the match with an 8-3 decision over Iva Celan and Jenna McCune. It was the first time this season that Bush and Schneider had teamed up in doubles play.
Bucknell later took a 2-1 lead after Vidrascu collected her second win of the day. The junior defeated Ashley Ta 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to claim her first singles win of the dual campaign.
Stephanie Pino accounted for Bucknell's final point, defeating Viki Sardellitti 6-4, 6-0 at sixth singles. The Purple Eagles had already clinched the match by that point, however. Like her older teammate, Saturday's win was also Pino's first in a singles dual match this year.
Although they were unable to come away with the victory, Christie Schneider and Bush did their best to keep things interesting. Both won the set in their respective singles matches, but both ended up falling in three sets. Schneider lost 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 at fourth singles, while Celan pulled out the 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision over Bush at the No. 5 position.
