Rosen Clinches Second Straight Match for Bucknell Men's Tennis, 5-2 over St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. – For the second time in as many days, Kyle Rosen clinched the team victory for Bucknell men's tennis. The junior's latest decision propelled the Bison past St. Bonaventure 5-2 in Olean, N.Y., on Sunday to improve their record to 3-2 on the year. Evan Zimmer was also a double-winner against the Bonnies.
Unlike yesterday's match against Niagara, Bucknell got out to a quick lead after taking the doubles point. Kelly Morque and Evan Zimmer snapped a two-match losing streak to defeat Elliot Fanshel and Javier Ortiz at the No. 2 position, 8-6. Octavio Canibe and Aidan Lynch also collected their second consecutive victory, knocking out Trevor Haskell and Celso de Vera Rehberger by a score of 8-3 at third doubles.
Zimmer and Nick Bybel then ran off back-to-back singles wins to put Bucknell in front 3-0 in the team score. A pair of three-set matches then went the way of the Bonnies at Kelly Morque's and Josh Katten's expense, making the day closer at 3-2. Thankfully, Rosen came through again with a tough 7-5, 7-5 win at fifth singles. Rosen defeated Haskell to clinch the team win and give the Bison their second straight victory.
Rosen has now won four consecutive matches, the second-longest active singles streak on the roster. Rosen also won the deciding match yesterday, defeating Niagara's Joseph Smithyman in straight sets.
Zimmer ended a less pleasant streak of his own, winning his first match in four tries by defeating Luis Guevara 6-2, 6-2. Bybel's victory was also in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 over Fanshel.
Also winning on Sunday was Jonathan DeFrancesch. DeFrancesch closed out the day 7-5, 7-6 over de Vera Rehberger.
Bucknell will be back in action for two more matches next weekend. The Bison open on Saturday with Hofstra at 1 p.m. in Quakertown, Pa., and continue on to Princeton for a 10 a.m. match on Sunday.
