LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Claire DeBoer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) and junior Audrey Dotson (Vienna, Va./Flint Hill School), both starting forwards on the Bucknell women's basketball team, each earned a weekly award on Monday after a stretch of action that saw the Bison compile a 1-1 record. DeBoer was named the Anaconda Sports Patriot League Rookie of the Week, while Dotson garnered Bison Athlete of the Week accolades.
DeBoer, the first Bison to be named the conference's Rookie of the Week since Shelby Romine received the honor six times in the 2010-11 season, earns the first weekly award of her career after averaging 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field in two contests last week. The forward turned in her best performance on Tuesday, scoring a career-high 15 points on 7-of-11(.636) shooting, collecting eight rebounds and adding a pair of assists, blocks and steals in Bucknell's 66-41 win over Youngstown State. The game was her second double-digit effort in a row, as she became the first Bison freshman in almost six years to register a double-double when she turned in 11 points and 10 rebounds in the team's 72-59 win at Cornell on Saturday, Nov. 23. DeBoer also shot .500 (3-of-6) against NJIT this past week, contributing eight points to the Bison offense in a close game with the Highlanders, and she currently leads all Patriot League freshmen in both scoring (8.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.1 rpg).
Dotson, who has scored in double-digits in each of Bucknell's first seven games, averaged 19.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent (13-of-26) during the team's 1-1 week. The junior registered the seventh double-double of her career and her third of the season against Youngstown State on Tuesday, scoring a game-high 22 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds to help the Bison defeat the Penguins at home. She shot 7-of-14 (.500) from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line in the contest, registering her third 20+ point performance of the season. Dotson also led Bucknell in scoring on Saturday, tallying 16 points on 6-of-12 (.500) shooting and chipping in seven rebounds against the Highlanders. The forward currently ranks second in the Patriot League in scoring (17.7 ppg) and third in rebounding (8.9 rpg).
The Bison, who have played five of their first seven games on the road, will return to Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday, Dec. 4 for the first of three consecutive home contests, welcoming Towson to Lewisburg for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
