LEWISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore swimmer Emma Levendoski (Mandeville, La./Mandeville) had an outstanding performance at this past weekend's Bucknell Invitational, lowering two school backstroke records while also posting NCAA “B” cuts in both events. Thanks to the strong showing, she picked up two weekly awards on Monday as she was named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week and the Bison Athlete of the Week.
A two-time Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week this season, Levendoski won the 100 and 200 back events and was part of three winning relays as she helped Bucknell to a first-place finish at its own three-day invitational. Levendoski also scored in the 50 free, finishing eighth, and was part of the third-place 200 free relay.
The 2013 Patriot League champion in the 100 and 200 back, Levendoski entered the weekend ranked second on the program's top-10 list in the 100 back. On Friday, she swam the first leg of the 400 medley relay in 54.35, breaking Courtney Warren's four-year-old school and Patriot League mark by .20. It was also her first NCAA “B” cut of the weekend.
Levendoski lowered that 100 back school record even more on Saturday when she won the prelims in a time of 54.27 and then went on to claim first in the finals.
Sunday brought another school record for Levendoski who lowered her own school mark in the 200 back by .91 seconds with a winning time of 1:56.80 to place first in the race by nearly six seconds. That time was another NCAA “B” cut and she is the only Bison in program history to swim the 200 back faster than 2:00.00.
Three of the relays Levendoski swam on (400 free, 200 medley, 400 medley) also recorded program top-10 times.
Levendoski has now competed in five meets this year and has swept both backstroke events in all five. She has won both backstroke races in eight straight meets dating back to last year and in 34 career backstroke competitions has finished first 24 times and second nine times.
The Bison Athlete of the Week honor marked the first career citation for Levendoski. She is the first women's swimmer to be recognized since Lauren Perry last February.
Levendoski and her Bison teammates will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 7, when they travel to Colgate for a 1 p.m. Patriot League meet.
