LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's water polo team put together an impressive 4-0 record against league opponents this past weekend and senior center Jack Else (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led the way on the offensive end of the pool with 14 goals and 11 ejections drawn. Thanks to his strong play, Else was named Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday, marking the first time in his career he has been cited with the award.
Else is a member of a strong six-person Bucknell senior class that closed its home career on a high note. The seniors combined for 36 of the team's 48 goals in the four victories. Else netted at least three goals in every contest, including four-goal outputs against both Johns Hopkins and nationally ranked Princeton on Sunday. He now leads the team with 38 goals this year and has 11 multi-goal outings in 14 games this year.
Else's 11 ejections drawn over the weekend were a team high. He now has 50 on the year and his 288 career ejections drawn are 102 more than anyone else in program history since the statistic has been kept (2001).
A 2013 team captain and an Honorable Mention All-America selection as a junior, Else has piled up 163 goals in his career. He is just 24 goals shy of joining the program's top-10 goals list and his 184 points are second among current seniors.
Else is the first men's water polo player to be named Bison Athlete of the Week this year. Brian Barron (Nov. 19, 2012) was the last honoree from the men's water polo team.
Bucknell (10-4, 5-3 CWPA Southern Division) opened the weekend with wins over Navy and George Washington on Saturday. The Bison then posted convincing victories against Johns Hopkins and Princeton on Sunday to improve to 12-1 in their last 13 home games.
Bucknell will be back in action Oct. 25-27 when it plays five games in California. Those contests will wrap up the regular season for the Bison, who have outscored their opponents 176-128 this year.
