LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field collected another pair of awards on Monday as Leonard Joseph was named the M-F Athletic Field Athlete of the Week and Michaela Read was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week. Joseph has now earned the top field honor for the second time this season and the sixth time in his career.
Joseph won the weight throw at the Bucknell Mini Meet on Saturday. The senior has taken gold and qualified for the IC4A Championships in the event in both of the team's meets this winter. The most recent outing came with a throw of 61 feet, 1 ¼ inches at Gerhard Fieldhouse last weekend and made him the other competitor with a mark of better than 53 feet.
Joseph is one of the most decorated field athletes in Patriot League history. His six weekly awards from the conference is one shy of the record set by former Bison Tyler Hoffman from 2003-07.
Read earned her first M-F Athletic Rookie of the Week honor after competing in four events at the Bucknell Mini Meet. Her best finishes came in the high jump and 60-meter hurdles where she was third in each. The freshman cleared a career-best 5-3 in the high jump and crossed the line in the hurdles in 9.64 seconds.
Read also anchored the 4x400 C team to a fifth-place finish and took 10th in the shot put.
Bucknell will be back in action on Jan. 19 when it hosts the Gulden Invitational. It will the third straight home meet for the Bison at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
