LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's water polo players Brian Barron (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) and Jack Else (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) were named Honorable Mention All-Americans, it was announced Tuesday by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. It was the first career honor for each Bison. It is the sixth time in the last seven years at least one Bucknell player has been cited and it marks the third time in the last four years multiple Bison have been recognized with All-America honors.
Barron, this past season, became Bucknell's first-ever Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division Player of the Year as he totaled a team-high 59 goals and dished out 41 assists. The senior co-captain was also First Team CWPA All-Southern Division, First Team All-Eastern Championship and he was named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week twice.
A two-time First Team CWPA All-Southern Division selection, Barron ranked second on the Bison with 34 steals in 2012 and he captured 74 of 128 sprints. He will graduate ranked eighth on Bucknell's career steals list (120), third in career sprints won (159) and 10th in games played (112). Barron's final career offensive numbers include 153 goals, 93 assists and 246 points.
Barron concluded his career on a high note as he nearly led the Bison to an Eastern Championship title and the program's first NCAA berth in nearly 30 years. The four-year starter netted seven goals and dished out seven assists while winning 12 of 14 sprints at November's Eastern Championship. He scored a game-high four goals in the overtime title game loss to St. Francis Brooklyn.
Else, a junior, joined Barron in the 50-goal club with a career-high 55 this past fall. He also drew a Bucknell-record 133 ejections, smashing his own standard by 55. No other Bison player has ever had more than 69 ejections drawn in a season. Else's 133 ejections drawn would ranked fifth on the career list that he already tops with 238, 52 more than second-place Richie Hyden, a three-time Honorable Mention All-American himself.
Else was named to the All-Southern Division Second Team for a second straight year. He was also a Second Team All-Eastern Championship pick after totaling three goals and 10 ejections drawn at the three-day event.
A starter in 30 games in 2012, Else will enter his senior campaign with career offensive tallies of 125 goals, 19 assists and 144 points.
Barron and Else helped Bucknell to a 17-14 record this past season. The Bison, who won seven of their final eight contests, advanced to the title game of the Eastern Championship for the first time since 1993 and they won their first-ever Southern Championships crown.
