Bison Women's Tennis' Cioffi, Pino and Silvers Make Strides at Bucknell Quad

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team finished its first outing of the year with three individuals advancing to the singles championships. Freshmen Maria Cioffi and Stephanie Pino each had impressive debuts to their singles career for the Bison by finishing runner-up in their respective flight finals. Claudia Silvers was also a runner-up as she was beaten in the Flight C final.
Cioffi earned second place in the Flight A final after being defeated by Meghan Hahn of Loyola (Md.), 6-2, 6-2. In her first match of the day, Cioffi beat teammate Elena Vidrascu in the semifinal by the score of 6-2, 6-1 to make her way against Hahn.
Pino placed second in the Flight B championship bout after falling to Rafaela Panizza from Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-0, 6-1. Pino won her semifinal match over Emilia Osborne from Indiana (Pa.) with a 6-0, 6-3 score to earn her way to the final.
Cioffi and Pino were also runners-up in yesterday's doubles championship match.
Sophomore Silvers won her Flight C semifinal over Daniella Falo of Loyola, 6-1, 6-1. She could not recover for the championship, as she was bounced out by the Greyhounds' Meredith Dwyer in a match that ended with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
The only other Bison to play Sunday was freshman Sam Madnick, who lost in her Flight B semifinal match to eventually winner Panizza, 6-0, 6-2.
The Bison women next will travel to play in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational starting Friday, Sept. 14.
