Women's Tennis' Bush, Pino Advance to Doubles Semi at Bucknell Tournament

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Jen Bush (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Stephanie Pino (Berwyn, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) advanced to the doubles semifinal and five Bison won their opening singles matches on the first day of the Bucknell Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. Pino and Bush were also first Bison to collect multiple victories as they also won their first-round singles matches over Patriot League opponents from Colgate.
Bush and Pino teamed up for an 8-2 win over Renee Deane and Jenny Smith of Mount St. Mary's in the first round. They then knocked out Colgate's Alex Petrini and Jennifer Ho in the second round by a convincing score of 8-1. Each Bison then made it three wins on the day with their singles success. Bush was a 6-1, 6-4 winner of Petrini in Flight A, while Pino defeated the Raiders' Meredith Rock, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 in Flight B.
Bush and Pino will face Carly Landini and Liz Rossi from Mount St. Mary's in their semifinal doubles match. Landini and Rossi defeated Maria Cioffi (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) in a first-round battle. The Mount's duo advanced by a score of 9-7.
Cioffi and Vidrascu each had more luck in singles play. Cioffi defeated Bloomsburg's Michelle Perez 6-2, 6-2, and Vidrascu was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Sydney West of Villanova. Vidrascu's success moves her into the Bucknell record books for singles wins. The junior now ranks 25th all-time in program history with 32 wins.
Also collecting a singles win on Friday night was Lydia Colvin (Cleveland, Ohio/Orange). Colvin's 6-1, 6-1 decision over the Huskies' Aida Diop was her first singles victory of the season.
Bucknell's final home tournament of the fall continues tomorrow morning with doubles semifinals and second-round matches in singles.
