BALTIMORE, Md. –Coming off a pair of league losses at Navy and George Washington on Saturday, the Bucknell men's water polo team was hoping to end its weekend on a high note Sunday at Johns Hopkins, but came up just short, falling to the Blue Jays, 14-13. The Bison had a chance to tie the game on their final possession, but could not score.
Bucknell (4-8, 0-3 CWPA Southern Division) was forced to play the end of the game without starters Stefan Aleksic and Alex Nowlin, who were both forced to the bench for being ejected three times.
Aleksic tied Brian Barron for team-high honors with three goals, while Mike Kimble and Jack Else added two apiece. Else, who broke his own program record for ejections drawn in a game (10) vs. Navy on Saturday, had seven more ejections drawn against Johns Hopkins, giving him 23 for the weekend and 43 on the year to rank No. 10 on the program's single-season ledger.
Bucknell, which saw its three-game winning streak over the Blue Jays come to an end, jumped out to a 5-3 advantage after the first quarter, but Johns Hopkins scored four goals and shut the Bison out in the second period to take a 7-5 lead into halftime. It marked the third time this weekend Bucknell trailed at the half.
After four straight weekends on the road to begin the season, the Bison will play at home inside Kinney Natatorium next weekend, Sept. 29-30. Bucknell will host the Bison Invitational, which will feature 12 games over two days.
