LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior goalie Matt Napleton (Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) was named the CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It is the seventh career honor for Napleton, who posted 10 saves in all three games at last weekend's North-South Tournament.
The 30-save performance over the weekend brought Napleton's season save total to 78. He now has 409 career stops to rank seventh on the program's all-time list.
Napleton has registered double-figure saves in five of the last six games. He totaled 12 games with at least 10 saves a year ago.
A member of the CWPA All-Southern Division First Team in 2011, Napleton helped the Bison to a 1-2 record over the weekend. Bucknell advanced to the semifinals of the eight-team North-South Tournament with an 11-3 victory over Harvard. The Bison then lost to nationally ranked St. Francis (N.Y.) and Princeton to finish in fourth place.
Bucknell (4-5) and Napleton will open league play this weekend when the Bison travel to Navy (Saturday, 2 p.m.), George Washington (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.) and Johns Hopkins (Sunday, 11 a.m.).
