Bucknell Men's Tennis' DeFrancesch Takes First Career Title at Mount St. Mary's Invite

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Bucknell men's tennis' Jonathan DeFrancesch collected his first tournament title to cap off the Mount St. Mary's Invitational in Emmitsburg, Md., on Sunday. The Bison sophomore led the Bison with a straight-sets win over Morgan State's Evan Ward in the Flight B Championship. Aidan Lynch was also a winner in the consolation bracket.
DeFrancesch won the Flight B singles title after defeating Ward 6-4, 6-4. DeFrancesch had entered the tournament with a 0-1 singles record this fall. His three consecutive wins this weekend is a career best.
Also competing in a final but with less luck was Octavio Canibe. Canibe lost to Mount St. Mary's Matt Blake 7-5, 6-2 in the Flight A title bout.
Collecting Bucknell's only other win on the day was Lynch. The junior defeated Bobby Gorczakowski of Loyola (Md.), 7-5, 6-4 in the backdraw.
Bucknell will be back in action next weekend for the Saint Joseph' Invitational in Philadelphia Sept. 21-23.
