Bison Track's Arent, Joseph, Siegrist Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field trio Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence), Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) and Tayler Siegrist(Madison, N.J./Madison) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team this week. Arent, who was also selected to the All-Academic Team in 2010, completed his career with a grade-point average of 3.44, while Joseph's nod came with a 3.44 as well and Siegrist earned a 3.88. Both Joseph and Siegrist were also honored last spring.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national to 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay on the official NCAA POP list; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
Arent graduated in the spring with a degree in chemistry. In 2012, he was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team and the Academic All-Patriot League Team during both the indoor and outdoor track seasons. A multi-term member of the Bucknell Dean's list and the league's Academic Honor Roll, Arent has also participated in the Bucknell Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management, a program that focuses on globalization, ethics, communication and bridging the disciplines of engineering and management.
Last season, Arent claimed Patriot League titles in the indoor 400 meters and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles. He also placed second in the 60 hurdles, fourth in the 4x400 and eighth in the 200 at the indoor championships before going on to take second in the 400 meters at the outdoor championship meet.
Arent finished his career at Bucknell with school records in the 110 hurdles (14.31) and 400 hurdles (51.59) and ranking in the top 10 in program history in the 400 and 4x400.
Joseph, who last spring became the second Bison in as many years to earn at least All-America Honorable Mention accolades at the NCAA Championships, is a multi-term member of the Bucknell Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Also in the classroom, the rising senior has conducted independent research on psychological burnout as part of the university's psychology department.
Athletically, Joseph defended his Patriot League title in the hammer throw and placed fifth in the discus at the league meet in the spring. He also earned his first league crown in the weight throw during the indoor season. He ultimately finished his season at the NCAA Championships, where he placed 17th nationally in the hammer throw.
Joseph's name is inked multiple times in the Bucknell record books. He enters his final season fourth all-time in the weight throw (63-0), second in the hammer (206-3) and seventh in the discus (157-10).
Arent's and Joseph's efforts on the track helped the Bison to sweep the Patriot League Championships this year. Bucknell won the indoor title for the first time since 1993 and claimed their third consecutive outdoor title in the spring.
Siegrist represented the women's squad on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team with her success as a management major and with a trip to the NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds in the javelin. The rising senior, who was making her second consecutive NCAA appearance, placed 32nd at the East Regional meet. Siegrist maintained her No. 4 ranking in the Bucknell record books as well with a distance of 144-1.
Off the field, Siegrist has been named to the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every term of her career, which also includes three seasons as a member of the Bucknell field hockey squad. A 2010 All-Patriot League Second Team selection and starting defender with field hockey, she was also an Academic All-Patriot League Team honoree as a sophomore as well. Siegrist is also a three-time selection to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Team and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
A total of 676 student-athletes were named to the women's USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, while 431 were honored on the men's side.
