Bison Women's Basketball Earns Spot on WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's basketball ranked among the nation's best in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll, finishing 21st the WBCA announced today. The Bison posted a team grade-point average of 3.382 during the 2011-12 season.
Bucknell was 21st in the NCAA Division I ranking and second among Patriot League schools behind American. It is the third consecutive year in which the Bison been among the nation's top 25, a stretch that included the No. 2 ranking a year ago.
Academic accolades are not new to Bucknell, which recently placed nine student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The team was led by Ashley Baxter (Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy), who finished the 2012 spring semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and Rachel Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland), who was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in March.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior college/community college teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2011-12 season is the 15th in which the WBCA has presented the standings. Making up the top five this year were Green Bay (3.616 GPA), followed by South Dakota State, DePaul, South Dakota and American.
