LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's John Dugan (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and Christian Lupica (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) competed at this past weekend's USA Track & Field Junior National Championships, which were hosted by Indiana University. Both Bison posted solid performances as Dugan placed sixth in the steeplechase and Lupica crossed the line 10th in the 110-meter hurdles.
By competing in the steeplechase, Dugan was in action late on Sunday as the event was the second-to-last race during the three-day meet at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex. The rising sophomore posted a time of 9 minutes, 26.46 seconds to finish sixth in a 20-person field that ran slower-than-normal times due to the hot weather. He was just 1.55 seconds out of third place despite falling when running through a water barrier.
Lupica was strong in his Friday afternoon race as he timed in at 14.13 seconds in the 110 hurdles. The top eight in the 29-man field advanced to the finals and Lupica missed the finals by just one-tenth of a second. Lupica's time would have been good enough for sixth in the finals had he advanced.
"The coaching staff is very pleased with the performances of these two rising sophomores and is happy for their progression as we head towards the 2012-13 season," said assistant coach Danielle Lynch.
