LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's rowers Emily Gladstone (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Amanda Chikowski (Media, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team, it was announced this week. Gladstone was named to the first team, while Chikowski landed on the second team.
Gladstone and Chikowski are Bucknell's first All-Region honorees since Olivia Knodt in 2010. Gladstone is the first Bison to earn first-team plaudits since Whittney Henry and Page Kannor in 2009.
A junior, Gladstone rowed in the five seat of the varsity eight this year, while Chikowski, one of two freshmen in the varsity eight, occupied the eight seat. They helped the varsity eight to a victory at the Patriot League Championship as Bucknell claimed its seventh consecutive conference crown. The varsity eight was named Patriot League Boat of the Year for a seventh straight season. Additionally, Gladstone and Chikowski were vitals cogs on the varsity eight as it placed second at the Dad Vail Regatta and fourth at the Eastern Sprints earlier this month.
Gladstone and Chikowski were both named First Team All-Patriot League following the Patriot League Championship. Gladstone is also a two-time CRCA National Scholar-Athlete.
Both Gladstone and Chikowski are now eligible for the CRCA All-America Team, which will be announced June 4.
Bucknell still has one event remaining this year as the lightweight eight will compete at the IRA National Championship Regatta next week on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Bison won the event in 2007 and have finished in the top five each of the last five years.
