Bucknell Women's Rowing Places Seven on All-Patriot League Teams

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Thanks to winning its seventh consecutive Patriot League title, the Bucknell women's rowing team had seven All-Patriot League selections, the league office announced Wednesday. First-team picks included Katherine Anderson (Piedmont, Calif./Bentley School), Amanda Chikowski (Media, Pa./The Episcopal Academy), Emily Gladstone (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Jillian O'Mara (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge), while Alison Cohen (Harvards, Mass./Bromfield), Gabriella Fleming-Shemer (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin High School) and Nicole Pilling (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) earned second-team honors.
All seven Bison All-Patriot League selections were members of the varsity eight, which earned Patriot League Boat of the Year honors for the seventh straight year and was also named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The varsity eight won the clinching race at Sunday's Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. Bucknell beat out second-place MIT by 2.42 seconds and third-place Navy by nearly 11 seconds.
This is the third consecutive year seven Bison have earned All-Patriot League honors. Bucknell has now had 26 different student-athletes combine for 37 All-League citations since 2006.
O'Mara was named First Team All-Patriot League for the third straight year, joining Kelly Henkler and Jeweliet Yost as the only Bison to earn All-League recognition three times. O'Mara is the fourth rower in Patriot League history to be part of the Boat of the Year four times, joining former teammates Page Kannor, Victoria Dudley and Carol Schoenecker.
Anderson is also a multiple-time member of the All-Patriot League Team, having also earned first-team plaudits in 2011. The other five Bucknell honorees were recognized for the first time.
In addition to the All-Patriot League honors, Bison head coach Stephen Kish earned his sixth Patriot League Coach of the Year award for guiding Bucknell to the title. Kish has been named Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and now 2012.
The Bucknell women's rowing team will next be in action May 11-12 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
