Robert Arent Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence), a captain on the and track and field team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, May 1.
Arent won the Christy Mathewson Award, presented to "the outstanding senior athletes." Arent shared the award with Stephanie Fulmer of the women's cross country and track and field teams, who was the female selection.
Arent will graduate having had one of the most decorated athletic careers in Bucknell history. A hurdler and sprinter with Bucknell track and field, he is a two-time Patriot League Runner of the Meet at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Arent's first honor came in 2010 as he helped the Bison to their first league title in 19 years, a meet in which he became the first in league history to win both the 400 and 400-meter hurdles in the same meet. He also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles and second as the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay at that meet to propel Bucknell to a three-point victory.
As a junior, he repeated as the 400 meter and 400 hurdle champion as the Bison easily defended their team title. Although his outdoor career is not yet complete, Arent currently holds the school record in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles and ranks second in the 4x400 relay and fifth in the 400. Indoors, he is the 60-meter hurdle and 400 meter record-holder and ranks among the top 10 in the 200, 300 and 500 meters.
Arent's success indoors also includes three individual titles in the 400 meters, making him the only Patriot League athlete to win that event more than twice. His most recent title last February helped Bucknell to a conference championship, its first indoors since 1993.
A 13-time All-Patriot League Team performer, Arent has also been named to three Academic All-Patriot League teams, three Patriot League Academic Honor Rolls and three Bucknell Dean's List. In 2010, the chemistry major was selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team as well.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 3,583 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 17 of 21 years, including 13 of the last 14.
Bucknell annually ranks among the national leaders in graduation rate and is fifth in Division I in the total number of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with 121 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
