LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell Department of Athletics and Recreation will be honoring Bison head baseball coach Gene Depew this weekend. Depew, a 1971 Bucknell graduate who has coached at his alma mater for more than 40 years, including the last 31 as head baseball coach, will be retiring at the conclusion of this season.
Depew, who has piled up nearly 600 victories as head coach of the Bison, will be recognized on the field that bears his name prior to Saturday's home doubleheader against Lehigh that begins at noon. In addition to his on-field recognition, Depew will be throwing out the first pitch.
A barbeque and pig roast will be taking place adjacent to Depew Field on Saturday. All alumni and friends are invited to attend the function, which will be held under the blue and orange Bison Club tents.
Following Saturday's doubleheader, Depew will be honored at a special dinner in the Terrace Room beginning at approximately 7 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $20 per person. It is requested that attendees RSVP to Marcy Carl at marcy.carl@bucknell.edu.
On Sunday, Depew will share the spotlight with his final senior class as Bucknell's 10 seniors will be honored during Senior Day ceremonies prior to the noon doubleheader against the Mountain Hawks.
Bucknell, which plays a road game at Towson on Tuesday afternoon, is 16-17 overall this season and 3-5 in Patriot League play. This weekend's series marks the final home regular-season Patriot League games for the Bison.
