LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lehigh scored 10 of the game's final 13 goals en route to a 17-9 victory over Bucknell in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at an unseasonably warm and sunny Graham Field. The Bison trailed 7-6 after a Katelyn Miller goal late in the first half, but the Mountain Hawks tallied the next three goals, and six of the next eight.
Bucknell (2-7, 0-2 Patriot League) was led by Miller, who scored three times. Ryan Wenk and Emily Kookogey added two goals apiece for the Bison, who were whistled for five yellow cards, compared to none for Lehigh (4-4, 1-1 PL).
The Mountain Hawks registered three man-advantage goals, including two in a row at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. Alissa Hardiman scored a man-up goal at the buzzer of the first half after the Bison turned the ball over in the closing seconds. It made the halftime score 9-6.
Lehigh was also strong on free position shots, converting four of its six chances. The Bison were 2-for-5, including 0-for-2 in the second half.
Bucknell went up 1-0 early on a Wenk goal just over two minutes into the contest. The score remained tight throughout the first 30 minutes of play as neither team led by more than one goal until Lehigh tallied twice in the final 34 seconds to take the three-goal advantage into halftime.
Back-to-back goals by Wenk and Kookogey just over a minute apart early in the second half brought the Bison back to within two goals at 10-8, but the Bison netted just one more score over the final 24 minutes of play. Lehigh scored seven times during that span.
Bucknell goalie Caroline O'Neill posted seven saves, while her counterpart, MaryLeah DiNisco, registered 10.
Lehigh dominated the draw controls in the contest. The Mountain Hawks won 21 of the 27 draws, including 12 of 15 in the first half. Despite the possession advantage, shots were even at 30-30 as Bucknell had 11 turnovers, compared to 17 for Lehigh.
The Bison will continue their three-game homestand Wednesday when they host Liberty at 5 p.m. at Graham Field.
