SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –The 16th-ranked UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team defeated Bucknell 14-4 Wednesday. The Bison scored all four of their goals in the fourth quarter as they continued their 12-game road trip to California.
Julianne Valdes (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), Mackenzie Ferry (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Sarah Frank (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and Samantha Deana (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) each scored one goal for Bucknell (10-13).
The Gauchos scored the first 12 goals in the game, but the Bison held a 4-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Brittany Connell (Montebello, Montebello) started in goal and recorded three saves in one quarter of play. Rena Heim (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) relieved her and posted eight saves and three steals in the final three quarters.
Taylor Barnett (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake) drew five ejections for Bucknell, but the Bison converted just 1 of 9 six-on-five chances.
Bucknell will continue its California trip Thursday when it plays Long Beach State at 10 p.m. Eastern. The Bison lost to the 49ers by a 9-5 score this past weekend during the Roadrunner Invitational.
