LEWISBURG, Pa. –Five Bison scored two goals apiece and Bucknell led wire-to-wire en route to its fourth consecutive victory as it defeated Wagner, 11-9, in women's water polo action Sunday afternoon. The contest wrapped up the CWPA/MAAC Crossover for the Bison, who went 4-0 at the event after opening the weekend with a loss to nationally ranked Princeton.
The Bucknell (7-6) win avenged a one-goal loss to Wagner at last week's Bison Invitational. Bucknell is now 12-2 all-time opposite the Seahawks, including 1-1 this year.
Julianne Valdes (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), Amanda Skonezney (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), Taylor Barnett (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake), Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Krystle Morgan (Rowland Heights, Calif./Rosary) were the Bison's five multi-goal scorers in the contest. Valdes, Kennan and Morgan also dished out two assists apiece to tie for team-high honors with four points apiece.
Valdes was also key on sprints, winning all four, to bring her season tally to 12-for-15. She also tied Morgan for team-high honors with a pair of ejections drawn.
Kennan's four-point outing lifted her career total to 233, moving her into 10th place in program history in that category. She also moved into a tie for eighth in school history in goals (144) and is now 10th in assists (89).
Rena Heim (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) started in goal and recorded her fourth double-figure save performance of the weekend with 12 stops. She crossed the 200-save plateau for her career and is now one behind teammate Brittany Connell (Montebello, Calif./Montebello) for sixth on the program's all-time ledger.
The Wagner game was the second of the day for the Bison. They defeated Villanova by an 11-6 margin earlier in the morning.
Bucknell will head back on the road next weekend when it plays three games at the Harvard Invitational. The Bison will face conference opponents George Washington and Harvard, as well as Iona.
