LEWISBURG, Pa. –The Bucknell women's water polo program will host the 16-game Bison Invite this weekend at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison will face Siena (11 a.m.) and Brown (6:30 p.m.) on Saturday and Wagner (9:30 a.m.) and Hartwick (6:30 p.m.) on Sunday. A total of seven visiting teams will be participating in the Bison Invite: Brown, Gannon, Hartwick, Marist, Princeton, Siena and Wagner. Games will run all day on both Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
A live video broadcast will be available for all 16 games. The broadcast is expected to feature a three-camera setup and no audio commentary. A subscription that will cover the entire weekend is $29.95, while a single-game subscription is $12.95. Everest Youth Sports (www.eysports.com) will be producing the broadcasts.
Bucknell opened its 2012 campaign at last weekend's Princeton Invitational and posted a 2-2 record. The Bison defeated George Washington and Mercyhurst on the second day of the event after falling to Harvard and Colorado State on Saturday.
Senior co-captains Amanda Skonezney and Hallie Kennan came out of the opening weekend as the leading scorers for the Bison. Skonezney netted a team-high nine goals and dished out four assists for a team-high 13 points, while Kennan registered six goals and three assists. Kennan also crossed the 200-point plateau for her career and she moved into a tie for 11th on the program's all-time goals list with 132.
Skonezney and Kennan were also strong on the defensive end of the pool with six steals apiece, although sophomore Heather Smith paced the squad in that category with seven thefts after totaling 26 in all of 2011.
Goalies Rena Heim and Brittany Connell split time in cage over the weekend. Heim totaled 18 saves and yielded 23 goals in Saturday's two contests, while Connell registered eight saves and 11 goals against in Sunday's two victories. Connell is now within 10 stops of 200 for her career.
This is the third consecutive year Bucknell has hosted the Bison Invite. The Bison are 7-1 in the event over that span, including 4-0 last year.
Of the eight teams in this weekend's Bison Invite, only No. 15 Hartwick and No. 20 Princeton show up in the latest national rankings. A new poll will be released Wednesday.
Bucknell will head back out on the road next weekend as it will return to Princeton's DeNunzio Pool for the CWPA/MAAC Crossover as well as a league game against the nationally ranked Tigers.
