LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team travels west to face a struggling Saint Francis (Pa.) team this weekend. The Bison take on the Red Flash (1-4) on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Ebensburg, Pa., at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
The Bison are returning from a season-opening defeat to Pittsburgh and expect a solid rebound against the Red Flash, who are coming off their first victory of the year with a 4-3 score over Lehigh.
The contest is expected to be a close one as several players look to correct early match mistakes from the Pittsburgh defeat and return to top form in Sunday's match. Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) is the only member of the squad heading into the Saint Francis match with a victory. This is a match for many of the less experienced underclassmen to build confidence before a four-match spell in nine days starting Feb. 18.
Last spring when the Bison faced Saint Francis they managed a 6-1 win, with several returning members getting match victories. Iepuras, Elena Vidrascu (Rochester, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and Courtney Casey (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) all put up straight-set decisions in their wins a year ago. Bucknell comes into the match with an 11-0 all-time record against the Red Flash.
Next up for the women's tennis team is a clash with Hofstra on Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon in Quakertown, Pa.
