LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second week in a row, Bucknell women's basketball claimed the Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week award on Thursday. Shelby Romine (Centreville, Va./Westfield) received the league's top honor after averaging 24.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in the Bison's wins against Towson and Saint Peter's. It is the second career Player of the Week accolade for the junior.
Romine joins Audrey Dotson (Vienna, Va./Flint Hill School) as the first two Bison to be named the Patriot League Player of the Week this season. Romine put together two of the top performances of her career to become the latest member of the club. Against Towson, the junior guard scored 20 points while shooting 6-for-14 (.429) from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds as the Bison defeated the Tigers 75-62 on the road.
Romine topped those numbers just a few days later when she set career highs in both scoring and rebounding with 29 points and 12 boards at Saint Peter's. That gave her the first career double-double of her career as well, an accomplishment she reached by halftime. Romine continued her outstanding play all the way through overtime against the Peacocks. She accounted to 10 of Bucknell's 14 points in the extra period, propelling her team to the 69-62 OT victory.
By the end of the game against Saint Peter's, Romine had gone 10-for-20 (.500) from the field and 5-for-6 (.833) from the field. She also had four assists, which was second on the team.
Romine now leads Bucknell in scoring (14.7) and steals (1.2) for the season. With her latest outburst of scoring, she also has 841 career points, which ranks 26th in program history.
Romine, who was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week six times as a freshman, now has two Player of the Week citations having also claimed the award on Feb. 13, 2012.
Bucknell is 7-4 on the year. It will look to improve its record on Saturday when it makes the trip to Youngstown, Ohio. Tip off against Youngstown State is set for 4:30 p.m.
