LEWISBURG, Pa. - Audrey Dotson (Vienna, Va./Flint Hill School) became the latest Bucknell women's basketball player to earn honors as the sophomore claimed the titles of Anaconda Patriot League Player of the Week and Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. Dotson led the Bison with 27 points and 17 rebounds against Longwood on Saturday, setting career highs in both.
Coming off the break in competition for exams, Dotson put together the best game of her career against the Lancers. She shot 8-for-14 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line to tally her 27 points. It was the first time in her career that she had surpassed the 20-point plateau. Her eight field goals and 11 free throws made were also career highs.
Dotson accounted for more than half of Bucknell's points in the team's 60-52 loss to Longwood. The last Bison to accomplish that feat was Molly Creamer on Feb. 21, 2003 when she scored a Bucknell- and Patriot League-record 44 points in a 71-67 victory over Lafayette.
With 17 rebounds, 10 of which came on the defensive glass, Dotson set yet another personal record. It also helped her to her first career double-double. Both the 27 points and the 17 rebounds are team and Patriot League highs so far this season.
Dotson is now averaging 17.3 points and 10.3 rebounds over the last three games. Her defensive prowess has also made an impact for Bucknell as she is also averaging 4.0 blocked shots during that same stretch.
Dotson is the first Bison to be named the Patriot League Player of the Week since Shelby Romine earned the honor on Feb. 13, 2012. She is also the second women's basketball player to be named the Bison Athlete of the Week this season, joining Alyssa Dunn.
Through the first nine games this season, Dotson ranks second on the team in rebounding (9.0) and third in scoring (10.7). She is also leading the team in blocked shots with 17 and is second in steals (9) and tied for third in assists (12).
Dotson and the rest of the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Towson. The matchup against the Tigers is set for a 5 p.m. tip.
