LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's lacrosse team has been ranked No. 18 in Face-Off Yearbook's 2013 preseason poll. Of the other 19 teams in the poll, the Bison will face six on what is shaping up to be another very challenging schedule this spring.
Last year the Bison went 9-7, falling to Colgate in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Bucknell was ranked for much of the season and finished the year ranked No. 20 in the USILA Coaches' Poll.
In the Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll, future Patriot League member and defending national champion Loyola (Md.) is ranked No. 1. League rivals Lehigh (No. 8) and Colgate (No. 11) are also highly ranked.
In addition to Lehigh and Colgate, the Bison will also face No. 7 Cornell, No. 12 Massachusetts, No. 15 Penn State and No. 19 Drexel in 2013.
The season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Delaware at 1 p.m. Bucknell's home opener will come two weeks later, as the Bison face Bryant for the first time on the lacrosse field on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
The Bryant game kicks off a four-game homestand that also includes the Patriot League opener against Navy on March 2 and a pair of visits from ranked foes in UMass (March 9) and Drexel (March 12).
Bucknell and Cornell will meet for the very first time on March 19 in Ithaca. Four days later the Bison return to Upstate New York to take on Albany.
The final non-conference game of the year will be on March 26, when Penn State visits Lewisburg to continue that annual series between Central Pennsylvania rivals. As usual the Bison finish the regular season with a difficult run of Patriot League contests. They face Holy Cross, Army, Lehigh and Colgate, with the Army and Colgate games coming on the road.
The top four teams qualify for the Patriot League Tournament, which will be held Apr. 24 and 26 on the campus of the highest-seeded team.
Stay tuned for future announcements regarding televised games.
