LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time this season, Bucknell volleyball has claimed the Bison Athlete of the Week as Morgan Mientus (Chicago, Ill./Saint Ignatius College Prep) was recognized for her standout play in Patriot League action last weekend. The junior led the Bison with 20 kills and 28 digs in the team's pair of five-set wins over Lehigh and Lafayette.
Mientus led Bucknell in digs against Lafayette, tallying 17 on the defensive half of her double-double. The junior also totaled 12 kills against the Leopards as the Bison rallied from two sets down to win 9-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-7. Mientus' 12 kills opposite Lafayette ranked second on the squad as did her eight kills the previous night against Lehigh.
Mientus was one of four Bison to register a double-double against Lafayette. She was joined by Kristen Titley (14 kills-11 digs), Kat Tauscher (23 assists-10 digs) and Meghan Wentzel (27 assists-12 digs). The team's effort gave the Bison back-to-back victories for the first time since Providence and Quinnipiac on Sept. 15 when they hosted the Bucknell Tournament.
Mientus, who began her season as Bucknell's starting libero but returned to the outside hitter position at the start of Patriot League play, leads the team with 319 digs this fall. She is also seventh in kills with 59.
The Bison Athlete of the Week honor is the first of Mientus' career. She joins Kebah Edoho as the only two Bison to be recognized this season.
Bucknell is 8-16 overall and 2-7 in Patriot League play this season. The Bison will travel to Colgate on Thursday for its next match. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y., where Bucknell will try to reverse the outcome of its four-set loss to the Raiders earlier this season.
