Bucknell Men's Water Polo Snags Overtime Win Against Johns Hopkins, 12-10

LEWISBURG, Pa. – In a back-and-forth game, the Bucknell men's water polo team scored three overtime goals to push past Johns Hopkins in the first of two Saturday matches for the Bison. Bucknell earned the 12-10 overtime victory over the Blue Jays largely in part to 16 saves by senior goalie Matt Napleton.
Bucknell (7-9, 1-4 CWPA Southern Division) spread the scoring around as five members of the team each put in a pair of goals for the Bison. Johns Hopkins (18-6, 3-2 CWPA Southern Division) saw five goals from Ross Schofield, but his efforts were not enough as Napleton managed to stop three shots from the Blue Jays utility man in overtime.
The Bison saw seven different members get into the scoring action against John Hopkins. Jack Else, Stefan Aleksic, Alex Nowlin, Brian Barron and Mike Kimble all tallied two goals to help the team earn the victory.
The teams went goal-for-goal throughout the first half, which ended with the Bison claiming a 5-4 lead. The second half started the same way and both teams traded goals throughout the half. Bucknell thought they had managed to earn the game-winning goal with 3:07 left in the game but the Blue Jays Schofield scored with 22 seconds left to send the teams into overtime.
Bucknell claimed the first two goals in extra time before conceding one with 37 second left in the first overtime period. Else scored the dagger goal with 47 seconds left in the second overtime period and the Bison managed to fight off a flurry of shots from the Blue Jays, including a five-meter shot with nine seconds left that was saved by Napleton.
Bucknell will host its second game of the day against Navy tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Bison also square off at 1 and 5:30 p.m. Sunday against George Washington and Princeton at Kinney Natatorium.
