I love every minute of being a freshman at Bucknell. The workload is nothing to be taken lightly, but it's interesting and it keeps me busy. I played sports throughout all of high school: softball, volleyball, basketball, track & field. Never a rowing team, at least, not until now. Walking into something I have so little experience with seemed a little bit silly at first, but now I'm glad I took the opportunity to try something new. We work hard and are improving bit by bit in the novice program.
I didn't think I'd stick with the program past the first few weeks, anticipating time constraints, but now I participate in club volleyball, a residential college, and other clubs in addition to the rowing team. In short, I'm still with the program and have a life outside of it as well.
I honestly didn't think I'd get into Bucknell. I'm not a math person, and didn't expect a school with such an emphasis on academic balance to take me in, but here I am. Here I am at Bucknell in a dorm full of engineers where I've figured out that we complement one another. I don't have to be terrific at math and science to balance out my interest in art and the humanities. My hallmates balance me out as I do for them. We're a community. I help with papers, proofreading and giving feedback, and they explain my mistakes in calculus. Everything's good because I've found my niche with activities, academics, and people.
