LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior men's water polo player Alex Nowlin was named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday following a four-goal, seven-assist performance at this past weekend's Bison Invitational. Bucknell finished the weekend 2-0 with victories over MIT and Harvard.
Nowlin opened the weekend with two goals and a team-high five assists in an 18-12 win over the Engineers. It marked his sixth multi-assist outing of the season and was his most assists since registering six in the season opener against Notre Dame (Ohio).
A left-hander, Nowlin followed with two goals and two more assists in a 10-8 win over Harvard. He tied freshman Nick Hale for team-high honors with four points in the contest. Nowlin's second assist was the 100th of his career as he pulled to within 27 of 10th place on Bucknell's career ledger in that category.
One of three Bison to post two multi-goal games over the weekend, Nowlin leads Bucknell with 28 assists this year and his 44 points rank second on the squad. He has also drawn five ejections, recorded five steals and posted three field blocks. Nowlin's 157 career points rank second among current Bison behind only senior Brian Barron.
This is Nowlin's second career Bison Athlete of the Week honor. His first award came last September after totaling seven goals and eight assists at the Navy Labor Day Open.
Bucknell and Nowlin will be back in action this Saturday, Oct. 6, at nationally ranked Princeton. Game time is 7 p.m.
