LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior swimmer Thomas Brown (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. One of eight Bison seniors to compete in his final home event on Sunday vs. Columbia, Brown swam in 11 events over three dual meets last week and totaled seven first-place finishes, including relays.
Bucknell (6-2, 4-1 Patriot League) faced league foes Colgate and Army, as well as Columbia, in a five-day span last week and Brown was one of the busiest Bison. He recorded four individual first-place finishes and did not finish lower than second in any of his six individual events as Bucknell posted a pair of league wins and lost just once.
The versatile Brown swam in five different individual events last week. He swam the 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM vs. Colgate and the 100 and 200 back against Army. He then repeated the 200 back in Sunday's meet vs. the Lions. Prior to this past week, Brown had not raced in the 200 free or 200 IM this season.
Brown also competed in five different relays last week, swimming either the first or second leg each time. Three of those relays won, while another had a winning time, but was scored an exhibition.
The school record-holder in the 200 back (1:47.85), Brown ranks in the top 10 in program history in three categories. He is listed second in the 100 back (50.04) and sixth in the 200 IM (1:52.41). Brown, this year, holds the top time by a Bucknell swimmer in the 100 back (51.03) and 200 back (1:49.24).
Brown and his Bison teammates will next be in action Saturday, Jan. 21, at Lehigh. The start time of the squad's final dual meet of the season is 1 p.m.
