ANNAPOLIS, Md. –Stephen Norton posted his second career multi-goal game and the No. 18 Bucknell men's water polo team outscored No. 16 Navy 7-4 in the first half en route to a 10-9 victory. It was the second victory over a ranked team this year for the Bison, who are now 6-2 overall and 1-1 against CWPA competition.
Bucknell, which lost an 11-9 overtime decision to Johns Hopkins earlier in the day, bounced back with its first one-goal victory of the season.
Norton was one of three Bison with multi-goal games as Jack Else and Beau Caillouette also had two goals apiece. Norton scored his first goal late in the first half to give Bucknell a three-goal halftime lead, while his second score came on a counter attack in the third quarter.
Matt Napleton, who recorded a career-high 14 saves earlier in the day against the Blue Jays, notched 12 stops in the win, bringing his season total to 68.
Navy (13-5, 0-2 CWPA) had won 19 of the last 21 games in the series. The Bison have now won one game against the Mids in three consecutive years.
Paul Pedrotty led Navy with four goals in the contest.
Bucknell will wrap up its first weekend of league play Sunday at noon at George Washington.
