
Bucknell Men's Water Polo Opens League Slate with 11-9 OT Loss at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. –The Bucknell men's water polo team battled back from a three-goal halftime deficit to force overtime, but could not earn the league schedule-opening victory at Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon as it suffered an 11-9 loss to the Blue Jays. Beau Caillouette led the Bison with three goals in the contest.
Bucknell (5-2, 0-1 CWPA) trailed 3-1 after one period of play, and 6-3 at halftime, but outscored Johns Hopkins 5-2 in the second half to force overtime. The score remained tied at 9-9 after the first three-minute overtime period, but Johns Hopkins netted a pair of goals in the second three-minute period to earn the victory.
Caillouette was one of three Bison to post multi-goal outings as Jack Else and Brian Barron scored two goals apiece. Barron added a pair of assists to give him a team-high four points.
Matt Napleton registered a career-high save total in cage for the second straight weekend as he made 14 saves, bettering his previous high of 11.
The game featured plenty of six-on-five chances as Bucknell earned 14 ejections and Johns Hopkins earned 18.
Johns Hopkins (9-3, 2-0 CWPA) earned its second straight win over a top-20 team as it defeated No. 13 Princeton by one goal on Friday evening. The Bison are ranked 18th nationally this week.
The Bison will play their second game of the day Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at No. 16 Navy.
