ANNAPOLIS, Md. –Brian Barron netted a team-high four goals, but the Bucknell men's water polo team could not stretch its season-opening winning streak to four games as it dropped an 8-7 decision to Brown Saturday evening at the North vs. South Invitational. The Bison are now 3-1 on the year and will play two more games Sunday.
Bucknell held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and still led 4-3 at halftime, but the Bears outscored the Bison 3-2 in the final period to break a 5-5 deadlock.
Alex Nowlin contributed two goals and Buck Doyle added one to round out the Bucknell offense. Nowlin also posted four assists to give him a team-high six points. He now has 27 points on the season, two more than his freshman-year total of 25.
Matt Napleton posted seven saves in goal for Bucknell, which had eight steals in front of him. Doyle registered a team-high five steals.
While the Bison came up one goal short in the scoring column, it was very successful in shutting down Brown's extra-man advantage. The Bears were 0-for-5 in six-on-five chances. Bucknell was 4-for-8.
Earlier in the day on Saturday, the Bison defeated Harvard 18-8.
