Bucknell Women's Cross Country Picked Second in Patriot League Preseason Poll

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's cross country was selected second and the men's squad was sixth when the Patriot League announced the preseason poll on Monday. The women claimed 86 points and two first-place votes, while the men had 46 points in the vote. The Bison kick off their season this Saturday when they host the Bucknell Open at 9:30 a.m.
After placing second in the team standings at last year's Patriot League Championship, the Bison women slipped to the number two slot in the poll behind defending champion Colgate. The Raiders finished with 96 points and 12 first-place votes in the poll. Navy was third with 74 points and two first-place votes, while Army was fourth with 58 points. Rounding out the women's vote was Lehigh (43), American (39), Holy Cross (37) and Lafayette (15).
The men's preseason poll mirrored the team finishes from the 2010 championship meet. Defending champion Navy dominated with 98 points and 14 first-place votes, while American was second with 84 points and two picks to be the top team. Army (75), Colgate (54) and Lehigh (51) took third through fifth, respectively. Following Bucknell was Holy Cross (25) in seventh and Lafayette (15) in eighth.
The Patriot League Preseason Poll is determined by a vote of the school's head coaches and sports information directors that cannot vote for their own team.
After being picked first in the 2010 preseason poll, the Bucknell women's squad placed second at the Patriot League Championship. Returning in the current season are First Team All-League selection Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) and Second Team honoree Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's).
The men's team finished sixth at the 2010 league meet after being selected fourth in the preseason poll. Bucknell's top finisher from that meet, Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough), returns this fall
