LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Doug Shribman (Marblehead, Mass./Belmont Hill School), a member of the Bison baseball team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 3.
Shribman won the Bison Club Award, presented to senior athletes "who best exemplify the winning spirit of the University's athletic program." Shribman shared the award with Molly Goebel of the women's swimming and diving team, who was the female selection.
In addition to Shribman, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
Shribman is in the midst of one of the best careers in Bucknell baseball history as he ranks in the top 10 in program annals in 13 categories. He tops the career charts for home runs (43) and total bases (379) and is second all-time in slugging percentage (.668), RBIs (153) and doubles (44).
In 2010, Shribman hit a Bucknell and Patriot League record 21 home runs, eight of which came during the postseason. He earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after hitting .423 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs in six games, helping the Bison to their second NCAA Tournament berth in three years.
This year, Shribman is hitting .320 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs. He has a team-high 58 hits on the year, 31 of which have gone for extra bases. He enters next week's Patriot League Tournament at Navy on an eight-game hitting streak.
A two-time All-Patriot League selection at first base, Shribman began his career as a pitcher and registered just five at bats as a freshman in 2008.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 16 of 20 years, including 12 of the last 13.
