Carol Schoenecker Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Carol Schoenecker (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel), a member of the Bison women's rowing team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 3.
Schoenecker won the 'Ray Bucknell Diversity Award, presented to senior athletes "who have worked to eliminate attitudes and actions that have separated, excluded or marginalized people in the past and has facilitated true understanding and recognition among multiple campus and Lewisburg constituencies." Schoenecker shared the award with G.W. Boon of the men's basketball team, who was the male selection.
In addition to Schoenecker, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
One of only three rowers in Patriot League history to be part of four Patriot League Boat of the Year varsity eights, Schoenecker helped the Bison to four Patriot League team trophies during her career. She recently earned her first career All-Patriot League honor, picking up first-team accolades.
The three seat in the varsity eight since her freshman campaign, Schoenecker was a Second Team CRCA All-Mid-Atlantic selection as a sophomore, when she led Bucknell to a second-place finish at the ECAC Metro Championship and a Murphy Cup victory.
A four-time Erg Armageddon champion, Schoenecker holds the Bucknell record for the fastest 2,000-meter erg time.
A two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Schoenecker owns a 3.59 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in history and classics with a minor in African studies.
Away from the river, Schoenecker is an active member of the Black Student Union, plays the violin in the University's orchestra and is a member of the Alumni Mentor Program, which advises potential study abroad students.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 16 of 20 years, including 12 of the last 13.
