CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) – Bucknell's varsity lightweight eight and the second varsity eight both raced at Sunday's Eastern Sprints and both took home fourth-place finishes. It is the third time in the last four years the Bison have had boats race at the prestigious Eastern Sprints.
This is the second straight year the varsity lightweight eight raced at Eastern Sprints and it improved upon its 2010 fifth-place showing by one spot despite rowing Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta. Bucknell finished behind traditional powers Princeton, Wisconsin and Radcliffe.
The Bison second varsity lightweight eight, which was idle Saturday, was making its Eastern Sprints debut and finished in fourth place behind the same trio of squads as its teammates. Wisconsin took home gold, ahead of Radcliffe and Princeton.
Bucknell has just one event left on its 2011 schedule, the IRA National Championship Regatta. The varsity lightweight eight will compete at that competitive event.
