LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior women's water polo player Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division Player of the Week on Tuesday. Canonica totaled six goals, five assists, seven ejections drawn and two steals in three games this past weekend.
Canonica's most impressive outing came in Sunday's 16-12 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) when she registered a season-high seven points on a season high-tying four goals and three assists, helping the Bison to their most goals in a game this year.
One of only two Bison with a pair of multi-goal games last week, Canonica also had a strong performance against No. 7 Michigan, scoring two goals, dishing out two assists and drawing a career high-tying five ejections.
Already Bucknell's all-time leading scorer with 387 career points and the assists record-holder with 203, Canonica ranks third on the team with 52 points (25g, 27a) this year, despite missing three early season contests. She has scored at least one goal in six of the last seven games and recently saw a consecutive game point-scoring streak of 44 come to an end.
Canonica, a 2010 Honorable Mention All-American, has drawn a team-high 30 ejections this year, lifting her career figure to 165, good for fourth in program history.
Bucknell went 1-2 this past weekend, defeating the Terriers, but dropping a pair of games to nationally ranked foes Michigan and Princeton. The Bison will play five of their final seven regular-season games at Kinney Natatorium, starting with four contests this coming weekend against Indiana, Harvard, Maryland and George Washington.
