PHILADELPHIA - Bucknell men's track and field closed out the Penn Relays on a high note as the Bison recorded two of the program's fastest times on the track and claimed a pair of top-five meet finishes in the field events at Franklin Field on Saturday. The 4x100 and 4x800 relays both clocked some of the best times in recent history, ranking fourth and sixth, respectively in program annals.
The 4x100 relay placed fifth overall in the IC4A division final with a time of 41.59 seconds. The finish topped the squad's time from yesterday's qualifying round (41.63) and gave them sole possession of fourth on Bucknell's record list. Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods), Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School), Kamal Riley (Hyde Park, Mass./Charlestown) and Isaih Bell (Stone Mountain, Ga./Clarkston) comprised Bucknell's relay in both rounds.
Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain), Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas S. Wootton), John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central) and Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) placed third overall in the 4x800 college race. With their time of 7:33.81, they are now the sixth-fastest Bison quartet in program history and have the fastest mark since 2003.
The morning kicked off with Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) and Ted Heitzman (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) in the throws. Both placed fourth - Joseph in the hammer and Heitzman in the javelin. Joseph finished with a throw of 184-5. Heitzman threw 230-10 to give the junior his second meet at better than 230 feet.
After today's Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold Open, which features the remaining Bison, Bucknell will look forward to the Patriot League Championships. The league meet is set for May 5-6 in Easton, Pa.
